HOLIDAY ITINERARY
Day 1 We journey North to the border village of Symington for dinner and overnight accommodation.
Day 2 After breakfast we visit Loch Lomond, then travelling via Tyndrum and Fort William we drive the glorious Road to the Isles passing the spectacular Glenfinnan viaduct to the Arisaig Peninsula and three nights at the Morar Hotel.
Day 3 A day at leisure in our new surroundings. Across the road from our hotel is Morar railway station on the famous West Highland Railway line. Opportunities therefore exist for rail excursions to Fort William or Mallaig. From Mallaig, the more adventurous might wish to take a boat cruise out to the remote islands of Eigg, Muck & Rum.
Day 4 Today we visit the mystical Isle of Skye, where we can discover the beauty of the majestic Cuillin mountain range, and the history of this famous isle forever associated with Bonnie Prince Charlie. We drive to Portree, the capital of the island, and view colourful houses grouped around the large natural harbour. Tour the Trotternish Peninsula, where every bend in the road opens up new views of mountains, moors, lochs and sea.
Day 5 Taking in the delights of Monarch of the Glen country we drive via Dalwhinnie and the infamous Drumochter Pass to Dunkeld, famous for its 14 century cathedral ruins. Our journey continues along the shoreline of the Loch of Lowes to Blairgowrie and three nights at the Angus Hotel.
Day 6 At leisure in Blairgowrie, a town poised on the edge of the Eastern glens with breathtaking Glenshee to the North and the romance and legend of Braemar & Royal Deeside beyond. Examples of Scotland’s turbulent past are all around with well preserved palaces & castles close by, whilst the town itself boasts a fine mix of shops just waiting to be explored.
Day 7 Our coast to coast journey is completed with a visit to the vibrant city of Dundee. Located on the North shore of the Firth of Tay, Dundee has been a Royal Burgh since the 12th century when the city developed as a port and manufacturing centre. Reminders of her long association with the sea are the Frigate Unicorn, the oldest British warship still afloat and the RRS Discovery, which took Captain Scott to Antarctica in 1900-04.
Day 8 Homeward bound
